Frequently Asked Questions

Unlike Slack's built-in functionality released in July 2021, DelaySay allows you to:
  • send a message to a friend in another timezone without figuring out what time it should send in yours (/delay tomorrow 8am CDT say Good morning to you!);
  • use natural language like "Monday at 2pm";
  • delay a message to a relative day/time like "in two days" or "in five minutes";
  • choose a very specific time like 11:55am, instead of Slack's current half-hour choices of either 11:30am or 12:00pm; or
  • conveniently type your entire message and the time you want to send it (a welcome option for coders/anyone who loves typing and hotkeys!) without needing to click any buttons.
However, both have their pros and cons! With Slack's built-in feature, you can view the contents of your scheduled messages and edit/delete them before they send. DelaySay currently only allows you to see the scheduled times of messages and provides the option to cancel them; we want to protect your privacy, so we use Slack's API to schedule your messages and cannot access or display your writing afterwards. (That said, please reach out if you'd like to have view and edit functionality. We'll certainly consider implementing it and rethinking our privacy policy if our customers prefer the convenience of viewing/editing scheduled, not-yet-sent messages.) Slack's scheduling also allows photos and attachments, which is another feature we're open to implementing if it's possible with Slack's current API.

Please visit our installation page and sign in to your workspace. If you aren't authorized to add an app to your Slack workspace, Slack will let you submit a request to your team's App Manager; otherwise, simply click "Allow" and you're all set! Each individual user must authorize DelaySay to schedule messages. But don't worry; we'll provide a convenient link the first time they try to use DelaySay.
DelaySay can read all messages you send starting with /delay. It needs access to your user information so it can format dates and times to match your timezone. It also needs permission to post messages under your username as you request. For more information, please read our privacy policy.
Yes! DelaySay can't read any sent messages in your Slack workspace. In addition, messages you schedule are processed by DelaySay's cloud application, then stored in Slack servers, so the developers of DelaySay have no access to message contents. For more information, please read our privacy policy.
Because of Slack's current restrictions, DelaySay can send a message up to 120 days in the future. Depending on your internet connection and DelaySay's processing time for a given request, it can schedule as soon as 15 seconds in the future.
To view your schedule, navigate to the desired channel and send the message /delay list. The times of your future messages will display, but not the messages themselves. For your privacy, they are stored only on Slack servers. The developers of DelaySay have no access to your messages.
Yes! To delete a message you scheduled yourself, navigate to the channel in which you scheduled it. View all your messages with /delay list, then cancel any of them with /delay delete and the message number you wish to cancel. For example, post /delay delete 1 to delete your next message. Depending on your internet connection and DelaySay's processing time, a message can be canceled as few as 60 seconds before it sends.
No, messages are sent from your profile, so you are not notified. However, this may change in the future. Let us know here if you want this or any other new features! We'll see if we can make it happen.
We hope you've enjoyed DelaySay! Any admin for your Slack workspace can view, update, or cancel your billing plan through your Stripe customer portal with /delay billing. (If you'd like someone else to manage your workspace's DelaySay subscription, an admin can give them access with /delay billing authorize @username.) Once you cancel through the customer portal, please note that everyone in your Slack workspace will lose access to DelaySay message scheduling at the end of your current billing cycle, and you will not be charged again. Note that removing DelaySay from your workspace will not stop your subscription; if you have already uninstalled DelaySay, contact us using the billing email associated with your DelaySay subscription so we can stop it for you. Please feel free to reach out if you'd like to share your reasons for canceling or if you have any feedback.
We're happy to help! Please contact us directly here.
